Couple of random tech stories...

Nick forwarded this link to me about binoculars related to that brainwave technology. Take a look at it.

A former student noticed this article about Second Life. The NBA is coming online...apparently SL ain't just for nerds anymore.

First of all, I think money spent on Second Life is a complete waste! Why would you seriously spend money on your digital self. What difference does it make what you wear. It's not real in the first place! It just seems like a con. "Let's get people to buy these useless things from us! We can make millions of digital merchandise!" SERIOUSLY FOLKS! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Now that I have that out of my system, I can comment on Nick's link. I thought that this article was really interesting. But what stuck out to me were the little phrases the author used to interest and grab her readers. For example she referred to the binoculars as "Luke's binoculars" and she also related them to Spiderman's "Spider senses."

Wow. That is all I really have to say. I mean, I am a little in shock at all the "around the corner" technologies in the works. I don't mean to be unspecific by not focusing on the two articles, but they just really make me think. I am so anxious about what may be available in the future! What might these brain waves, EEG, and other electrical devices mean for the future. Maybe it's because I have seen people suffer from mental disorders, but I just hope that somewhere down the line these types of technologies can be used for medical purposes to lessen peoples' symptoms. The binocular link really put me over the edge on this. It all blows my mind.

I have to say, I agree with dancefreak, why waste money on virtual lives. However, I can see how people get "addicted" to such devices. As humans, we always want more and we always feel that the grass really will be different on the other side. People want the "thrill" of being whoever they want and communicating with whomever they want. They want to express how they "feel" they should be viewed, rather than what people actually see. I'm not surprised the NBA is jumping on the bandwagon. I think they're smart. It's another form of advertisement and another way to make money. Why not?

Dude...whenever I hear someone complaining that someone else is wasting their money on something I start to get suspicious...I mean decking your avatar out in virtual clothes is no different than spending 5 bucks for a popular ringtone in my opinion. If you've never done that, then how about blowing extra bucks for a brand name...or can you guys think of anything a lot of people you know "waste" money on?
