Interactive Vs. Traditional

I'm sure that our papers that are due tomorrow, are on everyones minds right now... So I'm going to focus on prompt two: "Given our readings and discussions, write an essay in which you defend an exploration of some of the different online envirnments (MOO, wikis, blogs, etc.)"
I'm writing my paper on why I think students should be allowed to present their papers in a 'New Essay' form, and learn about abstract ways of communicating text, and images.  I don't know about any of you, but I am sick and tired of turning in a couple page papers full of text...  How awesome would it be if we were always able to create our papers in Microsoft FrontPage?  FrontPage is an online environment where anyone could create a website.  With the right knowledge about page design, and how to use FrontPage, people can not only write text, but put music in each page of the interactive website along with images, and videos.  Doesn't that sound more awesome then just typing up thousands of words?  I always feel good when I create something visually pleasing, so for me I am so up for a transition from using all 'traditional' writing, to incorporating something thats more visually appealing, and fun to create thats interactive.  Not something thats just typed out on white paper in Times New Roman with black font in 12pt.
Maybe It's because Im a Visual Communication major, or maybe because I've never been good at writing, but I find the 'New Essay' form of communication very intriguing.  If you were able to write a paper in an environment such as FrontPage in school would you? Or would you prefer just typing up a traditional paper? Do you think our society is ready for adding a new writing style?

Well I definitely would be in favor of writing a "new essay" if given the chance, but there's a few problems. The first being that I have no idea how to write a new essay that would be meaningful. I don't know how to use that kind of style, or how to show meaning in that style. When we read the one piece in class that was in that style, I had no idea how to start conveying what it meant. I think at some point we will be ready to make a general advancement in how we write essays, but I don't think we're ready for that now. I need to learn more about it, and then maybe some day it will work out.

If I could use front page or "New Essay" to write a "paper" I wish i could, but I don't think it would stand alone. Personally if I was going to do this I have a traditional text either printed or attacthed to the Front page document/website/whatever in order for a better understanding of what I am trying to get accross. The traditional paper would be used kind of like a skeleton, it would just be support, like our bodies though it would probably very important to the "life" of the New Essay.
Is our society ready for a change in writing style?
Beats me, but im sure like anything else it'll catch shit just for being different.

I would for sure take advantage of the new essay format if given the chance. It would make the piece more modern and interesting to view. I think our society is ready to adapt to it, just like our society has adapted to bundles of new technologies in the past. Cell phones, the internet, GPS devices, ect.

I think it would be awesome to be able to write papers in new interactive forms. It gives a whole new experience for the writer and the reader. I think it would be interesting how people who format it and how much people can get from the readings. A lot of people learn and remember things in different ways and maybe a new innovative way of writing would help get messages out to people in a way that it will stick with them.

I think it would be very interesting to write an essay in a new format such as Microsoft FrontPage but I just couldn't see English teachers switching the formats of essays. As long as there are English classes and strict English teachers I really don't see the traditional for of the essay ever leaving. The traditional essay form is pretty important in learning how to use formats such as MLA and I could never see myself writing an essay in any new forms. It would be very interesting to try but I couldn't ever see English teachers changing that.

I like it in the form of being a new idea and getting away from the norm but I don't like the inability to give it a means by which to grade it or a solid yes no this is how you write this and this isn't. Idk maybe I'm being hypocritical. Shrugs.
