If I knew how to make it so the link didn't pop up and a cool word did, I would, but unfortunatly, I am not that advanced. Anyways, this is about the game Destroy All Humans. Basically what I have discovered is that you go around as an alien and your goal is to literally destroy all humans. Obviously you can see why this fits into what we have been talking about. I came across the game because I saw a ton of commercials on a bunch of different networks. So my question is do kids really take away the lesson to "destroy all humans"?
The reason I find this comical and useful at the same time is do to the following. So we listened to a documentary that said that children are being trained to kill through the use of video games. A man from the military even came on to say that these games were teaching kids to be killing machines. We read several articles that argued that video games were bad for children and that they teach them terrible things. Yet, there is a game out there called Destroy All Humans, and we are supposed to take it seriously. I cannot tell you how many commericals I have seen for this game. And what is even more surprising is some of the different networks they are on. The one I found the most interesting was the TV guide channel. For a network to allow such an advertisment on their network shows me that America does truly understand that America's youth are smarter than a video game; know better than to go and shot someone because they are mad. When commericals for games like GTA are on, they are typically on MTV and SPIKE. They are also played at later times of the day, because children usually are not awake or watching these networks. But for a game whose purpose is to literally go out and kill all living beings to be advertised on a station that almost every child has access too proves to me that we are consciously aware that we need to stop blaming things like first person shooters when something in the real world happens.
So it may seem confusing what I am trying to say. It really all makes sense in my head. I just think that we need to stop using the excuse that "Oh he killed that boy because he played Super Columbine Massacre and Doom". America needs to face the fact that (well this could be my opinion only) parents are the responsibility for what takes place in instances like the Columbine School Shootings. What do you think?!
