So I am the first of us all to create a blog post! Mr. Shovlin thought that no one was signed up for this Wednsday but i wanted to be an over achiever and do it the second week of school. So it was a really good idea for Mr. Shovlin to give us a topic that didnt have to do anything with Cion but i am going to give us a topic over the ending of the book.
Zakes Mda has seemed to infuse ancesrty through out the whole entire novel. Whether it is telling the story of Abednego and Nicodemus and how they have the values and the ceremonies from the old continent or having Ruth and Obed talk about their ancestry of being Cherokee, or Shawnee. Even when Ruth talks about the very first Quigley. Ancestry seems to play a very large part in the lives of those in the novel.
In modern times everyone seems t be proud of their ancestry and they like to show it. Just walking down the street you can see people wearing different t shirts that have different countries on them showing their ancestry or their nationality. When people first meet it is a common question to ask where you come from and what your ancestry is.
How does your own personal ancestry affect your eveyday life? Are you proud of it? Do you wish that you could have come from a different background? Pick one of these questions and expand a little.

My personal ancestry effects my life everyday because it gives me another way to relate to my family and new people that I might meet. Having that one thing in common gives me a way to connect and be in a greater bond with that person. I am very proud of my ancestry. Even though I do not know much of my ancestors like Ruth did, I do know that I have history in Poland and Italy. I do not wish to have different backgrounds because then I would not be who I am today.
My ancestry is something that definitely affects my everyday life. I love my family and where i come from. It's a little different then it was in cion because i don't really know that far back to where my name was originated. I knew it came from poland but im not sure how far i would have to go back in order to know family there. To be honest I couldn't ask for a better surrounding family. I don't think anyone could ever say that they would rather come from somewhere else because I believe that there are good qualities in everyone. It's always nice to know that your family loves you.
My personal ancestry effects my everyday because it connects me with my family and those close to me. I come from a majority irish background. Most of my family is the same way. I am proud of where I come from. Most everyone notices my red hair and right away can tell where I am from. My hertiage is more then just from I come from. It gives me a support system to go to and to lean on when needed. It helps me get through those tough days. To me its not just from my fore fathers came from its as simple as those people back home in my hometown that are still there for me and that im still there for. I am extrememly proud of where I come from and the people that are there and I wouldnt change it for the world.
My own personal ancestry really doesn't affect my everyday life. Honestly I dont even know much about my ancestors. I know so little that it doesn't seem to shape my life. I wish I knew a little bit more about my families background. I know that I have a grandmother who came to the USA from Germany and that is about it. I also know that someone in my dads family was jewish and dealt with a lot of harrassment from it. I am proud of the fact that my ancestry is so diverse.
I am very proud of my ancestry. My whole family is Lebanese and I am a first generation American, so it is a big deal in my family. I would say it is as important in my life as it was for the characters in Cion, my parents still have their beliefs from how their parents raised them when they were growing up in Lebanon. I would not want to change my background because I love my families reasoning for the choices I make everyday.
My ancestry does affect my everyday life. Knowing my ancestry gives me the opportunity to know who I am and what I am about. It also brings my family together by sharing the same traditions. I am very proud of my heritage though I do not know too much about it. Being Irish, Polish, Czechslokavian, and German make me feel more connected towards those people. I am happy with the background I have because it makes me, me.
Well my personal Ancestory doesn't affect my personal life that much. The only thing that really had an affect on me was how my mother cooked. My mom was always taught to cook Italian foods(because thats where were from...Italy) more so than any other, so growing up it was always a lot of pastas and breads and so forth. I'm very proud of where i'm from. In fact i was going to get a tattoo of Italy on my back but one of my buddies already had it done. I've actually gotten that chance to travel to Italy to see old relatives. It is one of the most Beautiful places i've ever seen. I would Def. recommend visiting someday.
My ancestry doesnt really effect my everyday life. But I am proud of my German heritage and I wouldnt change it for anyother. I dont really know a lot about my past ancestors. I do know my Dads great grandfather came from Germany. I wish I new more about ancestors and I wish I new stories that were passed down throgh my family like the Quigleys have. Im not as proud of my heritage as they Quigleys but I still love where Im from.
My ancestry affects my everyday life because it defines who I am. I come from a mainly italian background; so we practice Italian traditions. Every sunday my dad cooks spaghetti dinners where he makes the sauce and the pasta from scratch because that is the traditional Italian ways. I don't wish that I was from other backgrounds i am comfortable with who I am and where I come from.
My ancestry is something that I am proud of but not something that my family and i base anything around. We do not follow any special traditions but we are proud to say where we come from and who we are. I am about as American as they get, Irish Scottish and English and am very proud to say so. My middle name is Kelley (Irish), my grandmas maiden name and my dads side of the family has there own clan, the Stewart Clan in Scotland. I think that is awesome and would not change anything about my heritage or ancestry. I also think it is very cool that we have a family tree that dates back 100s of years ago to my moms side in England, most were indentured servants in Wales. I think that is pretty cool! So in all no, i would not change any little thing about who I am.
