The Brass Ring and the Deep Blue Sea

Why do you think Williams added "humor" to her essay? Was it appropriate when the issues she is discussing are so serious? For example, when she tells the story about the couple and their young son walking down Fifth Avenue. Do you think by adding humor she is taking away from the importance of her statements made in the essay or is she trying to lighten her words, allowing the reader to relate to her better?

No i don't feel like she is taking aways from the importance at all.She is trying to lighten up and be more laid back. This is a way to help the reader relate better to what he or she is reading about. It's like when your at a party and a fight breaks out. after its over everyone is real quit, then someone says somethings that is funny and the whole party starts laughing and continues what they're doing. In a way its the same thing in a book. Authors put humor in to lighten up the mood or create the type of mood they want.

I think she is adding humor to sort of take away from all the sadness from the story. Sometimes to much sadness can loose interest of the reader. Adding humor can also ehlp the reader to relate better and understand where she is coming from, and humor, I think, makes a story a lot more interesting. I'm not a fan of boring and sad stories, they put me to sleep. So when she adds this humor it keeps me interested and it pulls me into the story so I keep reading it.

I think Williams added humor to essay because it is part of her personality. From the opening paragraphs, she seemed to be a funny, random person. I think she liked adding random parts in her essay to show how she is in real life. I think that the humor that she adds is not taking away from the importance of her statements. She is still able to make a precise argument while adding humor. I feel that it is a good thing that humor was added in the essay, otherwise it would have been much more boring to read than it already was.

I think that she added humor to the story to keep the reader interested. If she wouldn't have added the humor then i know this would have been even more difficult for me to read because it wasn't something that I was that into. This story also had some sad parts in it and the humor kind of took away from the sadness and helped the reader. This isn't bad and it doesn't take away from the reader, I feel that it only helps the reader.

Williams added humor to the essay because it is a characteristic in which she possesses. I do not think that it takes away from the importance of the essay, but makes it even more personal, and gets the message across even better. Williams wants to be serious, but her personality will not allow it. She uses humor to lighten the mood and make it more enjoyable to read.

I think that the humor she adds to the story benefits it. I think by adding humor in sad situations makes people think about not taking life so seriously. If the entire book was just a sad story I don't think it would have been as interesting. By lightening the mood she kept me interested. She shows readers that you can always find humor and goodness in your situation.

I think she is adding humor so it not so serious and sad the whole time. I think it is appropriate because it changes the mood and keeps the reader connected to the article. I dont think she is taking away from the essay, i think she is just trying to keep the reader connected and more in touch.

I think that by adding humor to the story Williams makes the story more interesting and keeps the reader hooked. I think that i would have been bored with the story if all she talked about was sadness. Humor keeps the reader interested and makes it easier to relate to the story.

I think she added humor because it will be easier for people to relate. Sometimes when I read serioius pieces it makes look deeper into the work then what I really needed to. Also, humor might be a part of her personality, I know when I tell stories, I like to add a few jokes to keep the reader interested. A story is just as important with or without humor.

I think that she adds humor so take away from the seriousness and depressiveness of the story. No one wants to read a story about how terrible things in the world are, so if you can find a way to relieve the sadness, it will make for a much more interesting essay. She is still able to get her message across while making it interesting for everyone.

I think humor sometimes make people feel better about a topic. I think it was appropriate because some things so serious mean something so much more when you don't have to think about the subject so sadly.

I think she added humor to a make thing a more real story that we could relate to more rather then a alot of lawyer talk. I think that her adding humor was a very good idea because i know if it werent for that i would have lost interest qucik.
