Private First Class Reginald "Malik" Edwards, Phoenix, Lousiana"

"I had left one war and came back to another one" (386).  Throughout the short story, "Malik" fights many different types of wars. He fought in the Vietnam, when he came home had no job and as a result re-enlisted, he joined the Black Panthers group. It seemed to me that he was always fighting a battle with someone else, and with himself. Do you agree that throughout ones life you have battles that you fight with yourself and with others? Does this define how people perceive you as a person?

I believe that people fight battles everyday, whether its big or small. Trying to pass a class or prove something in a debate, you are trying to win a battle. I also believe that the battles you partake in do form who you are. I think the battles that you choose and the things you think are worth fighting for shape a person in and out, to the one fighting and the bystanders.

I definately agree that throughout ones life battles are fought. Whether its with themselves or someone else, these fights are common. I think that these battles you fight help define you as a person. These fights help develop character and show ones true inner self.

I think that people are always fighting. They may be fighting for what they believe in, fighting for a job, or just plain out fighting in a war. I think you have to fight in life to get what you want and fight for what you believe in. Right now with the elections, people are fighting for who they believe should be president and debate and fight for them. I think fighting makes you who you are and it is just part of life.

I believe everyone fights a battle with themselves sometime in their life. Sometime I think that I am fighting a battle with myself everyday. The battles we fight do define who we are. The type of battle you fight will define who you are.

Fighting battles through your life is enevitable. You fight with your parents to stay out late. You fight with the mirror on how you look. You fight with inner demons on events and regrets that took place in the past. Without these battles i feel like life would be boreing. What kind of life would people have if life was perfect? These battles make people stronger. Nobody wants an easy ride to the top of the mountain...Its the journey to the top that makes getting to the top worth it.
