"Soldier"

In the movie, Todd, the strongest soldier of the "older generation" was replaced by a younger, bigger and faster soldier of a new group that had been created by using DNA files. "You're men are obsolete." The commander of the "newer generation" would make fun of the other group of soldiers because they could obviously not keep up with his younger and much stronger group of soldiers. Therefore, they all were replaced because they were not good enough, or they couldn't keep up. In our generation, there are many ways in which a person is rejected, or replaced. Whether it may be on an athletic team, a club, or even just trying to fit in with an ordinary group of people. Has there ever been a time in your life where you felt like you were rejected or not wanted by someone else? Or you felt like you didn't fit in? If not, try to describe how it would feel if you, or someone very close to you, was just replaced and shut out by someone else.

There has been a time when i was rejected and "replaced" by a younger candidate. After tearing my ACL and having recostructive surgery i had to be the manager of the varsity team my junior year because i had not fully recovered. So my senior year i was so excited to play, i went to every conditioning and camp session with as much enthusiam and skill that i could. When try outs came around i thought that i had done a pretty good job and that i knew i would make the team, but i also knew that i shouldnt count my chickens before they are hatched. So the last night of tryouts the head coach comes up to me and say "Carrie out of thirty girls you are ranked 24th and sadly we are only taking 21 for the team. You are second to none though when i comes to spirit and attitude." Of course i wa upset and embarassed but i knew that there were alot of younger girls this year who were amazing players so they probably deserved the spot over me.

There was one time I was replaced on my cheerleading squad. I was replaced because I had injured my wrist and could not base anymore. So I got replaced by someone who could base. I felt useless. I could still go to practice and I was still able to compete but not being able to do what I was put on the squad to do made me feel horrible. Eventually I earned my spot back after I healed, but that feeling of being replaced was a horrible feeling.

I have never had to worry about being replaced by someone else. If anything I have been the one that replaced the other contestants. Freshman year, I made varsity cross country, which kicked out some of the veteran upper-classmen. I can imagine how it felt. They probably felt upset and almost as a sense of uselessness. They might feel that like they have to train and practice harder to regain a spot on the team.

I have never been put in a position where I was replaced by someone who was younger or more qualified for the job then i was. But i have had friends who have been replaced, and have witnessed first hand how hard it was for them to accept it. It would be very hard to be number one and train your entire life for something, and then one day find out that you are easily replaced by an entire group of younger people who do your job better.
