Google Vs. Yahoo

I was watching the news the other day and I saw that Microsoft has offered to buy Yahoo for a mere 44.6 billion dollars. Now I started to think to myself who in the world has that kind of money lying around? Can Microsoft really have that kind of "pocket change" to go out and spend? I started to think to myself about why they would want to spend so much money on something. The answer I came up with was quite simply just everybody getting their piece of the pie.

Microsoft is trying to purchase Yahoo not because they feel like it, but rather to compete with the infamous Google Inc. They are trying to make an attempt to get people to switch from Google to Yahoo. With billions of dollars to be made why not? So my question is do you think you can stop "google-ing" it and go to maybe "yahoo-ing" it? Do you think its right for companies like Microsoft to just simply buy out their opponents? Should there maybe be more laws in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening? I know right now the debate is clearly favoring the Google side because there really isn't much competition. Do you use any search engines beside these two? Could their be another player in this battle? Well the debate continues but if you need to find some answers you at least know where to start.

Google is easier to type : )
I just like google. It's simple, does the job and doesn't have all the other stuff that I don't need.
Companies legally can't "buy out" competitors because that would cause monopoly, which isn't legal. Microsoft doesn't really have a search engine...liiiiike....msn is, but everyone knows msn sucks. Getting yahoo isn't buying out competition, it's a smart move. Will it work? Well I'm sure all the people at Microsoft feel that way. They will have to really revamp Yahoo to pull me from google, but it's unlikely.

I think that the same kind of thing is going on with AT&T right now. They are now offering many more services and plans than they were 5 years back. Plus they bought out cingular. I think that they are going to try, again, to own a big chunk of the new media market with all the HD channel packages, phone lines, and what not. I think they used to have a monopoly until the government broke them up. Google has more of the 'phrase' for its name. We use it like we use Klennex. I personally think pouring that much cash into a search engine is dumb. Microsoft is just lazy and doesnt want to have to build from the ground up, like yahoo did, and have to dish out labor and a lot more advertising to get people to use their search engine.

Even if this buying out yahoo doesnt work it really wouldnt affect microsofts money flow. i mean Gates makes 14 billion a year or close to that and that is just his personal income. But it is a good move by the companying. that way they can merge msn and yahoo. In the long run Yahoo will most likely be better because microsoft has a bigger money pool to spend on it to improve it.

I think google has created a monopoly for engine searching on the web. everyone goes to google now and i hardly ever visit the yahoo page. Yahoo does however have more things available on their homepage i think it is viewed as more as a full page not just a search engine like google is. I dont think its a smart investment for microsoft because it will be to hard to compete with google

honestly, i use yahoo a whole bunch more than google. I like to see all the news articles they put on the front page, and i think they get better search results.

I'm a googler and googling is the way I do my searches. I can't image using yahoo. I know they are both just search engines, but I feel that google is better organized and I'm more familiar with the way it functions. If they bought out google I would be disappointed, but it's not like I wouldn't use the yahoo. And a lot of times when companies combine, it works out for the better. Such as phone companies, because now there are more people in the network. I'm sure there will be people who get really upset about this. Some of those strong googlers, but I do believe that the world of internet will survive without google.

I don't think i would switch to using
yahoo. I like using google and and there is no problem so why would I switch. By Microsoft buying yahoo i don't think its really going to effect Google or anything. Its a smart business move for Microsoft. They will have to make drastic changes to get people to move from google to yahoo.

I use google.com because I like the look of the homepage better. It has less going on and less to distract me from what I am actually searching for. I could probably use yahoo, but google is instinctual to type. Yahoo is helpful because you can see what is going on for the day. I don't watch TV so I need to get my information from somewhere. I don't think that a monopoly of internet search engines should happen, but I also don't think that the government should be able to regulate that. If Microsoft and Yahoo want to get together, then let them. It's not that big of a deal, and I know plenty of people who will still use good ol' google.

It will never be as large as google, or at least not for a very long time. Google has made such a name foe itself that you don't even say search it, you say google it. It his hard to compete against something like that. I also find it surprising that microsoft wants it; not saying it is a bad company. It is just surprising to me for some reason. I never realized how much i am on google until reading this. I also search with yahoo too.

I think that it's probably a smart move in a business sense becaues it will in fact complete the "infamous Goodle Inc." From a legal standpoint, however, that pretty much sounds like monopoly to me. I might have to look into that (I don't know who owns Yahoo! right now and other such information). From a consumer's point of view, it probably won't make a different who owns it. If I'm a Yahoo! user I'll probably continue using that search engine; if I'm a Google person, I'll probably stick with that. So in the eyes of the consumer, I don't think anything will really change. It all depends on your point of view.

I think that Microsoft is being a little selfish in trying to just buy up everything around them but at the same time I don't think it really matters. The 2 guys that started Google already sold Google a couple years ago for a few billion dollars so I guarantee that those guys could care less and I guarantee that the Yahoo chain in command could really care less because they're going to see a lot of that 44 billion dollars. The people that really care about this are the people lower on the chain and I believe that those people could potentially get screwed and that's wrong but at the same time I don't believe Yahoo cares about those people and I know Bill Gates and Microsoft don't get so it won't stop anytime soon.

I don't use google, I always use yahoo. I don't know why but I do. I think it is a smart buissness move, is it morally sound? Probably not, Microsoft is cornering the market on pc and now the internet. They would be creating some jobs which is good for the econonmy, but maybe putting others out of jobs. It just sounds as if Microsoft is becoming even more greedy.

Yahooing it doesn't sound as good and to be honest I feel mothers with daughters would walk their children in the opposite direction if they heard me say how much I love Yahooing if you heard it in the wrong context.
That's besides the point. Microsoft has been sued for being a Monopoly before so IDK my BFF Jill is all i can really say. They made enough money to progress further and make more money who are we to bitch and moan and say hey stop that!
