In terms of technological advancements, this one ranks right up there with the best of 'em. Just the other day I was introduced to the idea of "Smart Clothes". Scientists actually have created clothing that can sense body temperature, heart rate, and other body functions. Shirts with these capabilities are in production for the army right now. Smart Clothes produced for combat will also have the ability to send out a signal if a soldier is wounded. For those of us who aren't enlisted with the armed forces, other types of Smart Clothes are in development for the general public. One of the most interesting projects being finalized is the "Smart Bra". This bra is supposedly capable of detecting temperature change in the breast that is an early warning sign of a cancerous tumor. These bras are actually supposed to be able to detect breast cancer just as soon as expensive procedures such as mammograms. These bras are almost ready for distribution in Europe and are on track to be in stores in the U.S. by the beginning of 2011. For more info on the Smart Bra check this out.
What do you think about even our clothes now knowing more about us than sometimes we do? Do you think Smart Clothes are a good idea for the battlefield? Do you think the Smart Bra could make a difference in breast cancer treatment? Do you think Smart Clothes are a good idea in general?

Smart Clothes, wow, what an idea. I think as far as detecting things like breast cancer, they would be benificial, but as far as wearing clothes that are smart, and can tell you things about the body liek they do, I don't think it is something we need, or would see everywhere. I think for certain people and certain jobs, these would be benificial. Maybe for people who are sick or need to regulate thier body more than the 'normal' person, this would be a good idea. I think in the battle field it wouldn't be a bad thing, but is keeping track of heart rate and temperature that important in the midst of things. I think anything that could possibly help with breast cancer is worth trying, but as far as secing it, is everyone going to buy a smart bra, to see if they have it. I think a more efficient way would be to go to the doctor and get diagnosed.
I do feel like this can be a good idea. The only downfall to it would be the price. The people developing these technologies are going to try and cash in big on this. As far as the armed forces are concerned, it would obviously be a good idea to equip our troops with as much hi-tech stuff as possible. I do believe that it could help with the prevention of breast cancer, every little bit helps.
I think that Smart Clothes are a good thing for the armed forces. Being able to tell when a soldier is wounded and needs help will be a tremendous help to the military and is a fantastic safety measure.
As for Smart Clothes for the common American. I'm not really sure this is needed. Even if this Smart Bra could detect breast cancer as early as any mamogram or other machine/procedure, it would probably cost the same amount if not more. Therefore, I don't think Smart Clothes are necessary for common Americans, although I do like the idea of them keeping track of soldiers vitals in battle.
This sounds like a really great idea, but I would definitly want to know more about it before using it. Also, if the bra was defective and gave a wrong diagnosis it would cause problems for people. The concept is nice but there would have to be a lot more testing before I would consider it.
I think smart clothes is incredible. It could save a soldier's life on the battlefield, as well as help someone keep in shape. However, this technology is going to be incredibly expensive.
I think this is a sweet idea. It's kinda like those Nike shoes but cooler. In the battlefield any advancement is worth it. This sounds like it would be very helpful for soldiers and cut down on casualties in war. It doesn't matter to me if my clothes know more about me than I do. As long as they are helping and have a cool factor than it doesn't bother me. The only problem is that these are going to be very expensive at first. Who knows though, out kids could be wearing smart clothes just like we wear regular clothes today.
Crazy that clothes will be able to sense and interpret that much of a human body. It's really weird, but potentially really helpful. I think the Smart Clothes would be awesome to use for the battle field because it could decrease the number of deaths in soldiers and increase the ability to rescue them. The Smart Bra is a little weird to me. It seems like instead of actually helping, it could potentially cause many scares for people because our body temperatures change quite a bit over the course of the day and night. Smart Clothes seem like a good idea for the military and potentially a good idea for sick patients who have already been diagnosed. I don't think it would be so good if everyday people wore them because of the risk of scare.
This is crazy but interesting! I don't believe this to be a necessity, but beneficial. I also think it would be a great idea for combat and letting people know when a soldier is injured. These definitely would be more beneficial to some more then others, like someone who is sick or who has a history with cancer. I don't think it would be a bad thing if our clothing knows more about our bodies before we do if it would help us out in the end.
That sounds like a really cool idea that I kind of wish I would have come up with myself to be honest. I think the smart clothes will be very popular with people and even though they seem a little out there and futuristic there are a lot of thing 10,20,30 years ago that seemed pretty out there and futuristic and are now just ordinary everyday things. It kind of reminds me of "Back to the Future" when Michael J. Fox goes into the future and he falls in the water and his clothes automatically dry him off. I always thought that was a cool idea and I guess it was closer to being created then I thought.
I actually don't mind it if clothes knew more about my body than I did, unless they were life threatening in any kind of way. I also don't want them if it at all allows the government to keep up with me because I value my privacy very much.
I think that these smart clothes would be a good idea for the battlefield. It would be nice if these clothes could make it easier to be able to find wounded soldiers. As far as breast cancer goes, I do think that the smart bras would make a difference in the treatment of breast cancer. I know that it is very crucial to spot breast cancer in it's early stages in order to really get rid of it. So by these bras notifying people when cancer is present is a good idea.
Well gee even clothes are smart now. I think this is cool. Technology is just soaring. I hope I don't die before it peaks. We have cars now that display mileage and stuff on the windshield like out of a movie or something, soon those will be in soldiers helmets and stuff and then war will be even more complicated. I think though that stuff like smart clothes help keep other countries ahead of people like terrorists. They only just weapons and stuff, but what if you had a thermal visor to see exactly where they were and other features built into your visor. Eh too much Terminator I guess.
I believe that smart cloths could be very beneficial for military purposes. This would be a great way to save injured soldiers and keep them alive. It's pretty cool to think that something like this could detect cancer but it would probably be just as expensive if not more than getting a test done. It wouldn't really be practical to have smart cloths in everyday life. We don't really need cloths to tell us how cold we are or fix it for us. We should be able to do this by ourselves. I don't think that it would really be necessary.
Yes i think for the battle field it is a great thing. I just think for the general public it isn't. Its a great idea, but the our culture is all about feeling good and being the most comfortable. I can probably say this wont be very comfortable and people wont want to wear these clothes.
first of all, who didnt see this coming? with all of the new science fiction movies out there, is this idea really all that farfetched? i personally think it's a great idea for smart clothes, especially in battle. i think the pros definitely outweigh the cons in this debate. the only problem i see with them is the fact that they may become rather expensive, but that will be taken care of over time. just imagine, the first computer was pretty darn expensive, and now they arent terrible.
Obviously any advancement in battlefield technology that can help our soldiers live longer is a great one and the fact that this same idea could even help prevent breast cancer in the future sounds pretty awesome as well. Price is always talked up as an issue but everything once expensive is now cheap. DVD' the PS3...(that's cause it sucked though) etc...
I think that this is an amazing development. Being in the military myself, i think that this will help exponentially. It could have a link to command saying is someone was injured and could even help the medics. In everyday life, however, i don't think it should come out to be that widespread.
I think the idea is incredible. It's another invention that can alter lives in a positive way. To be able to adjust to temperatures, or give out signals if wounded? That's remarkable. The only problem is how much these might cost at first. If at first the cost is way higher than the benefits can provide, we're not being helped out a whole lot. That's my only problem with these new inventions is that they cost so much to purchase, it's almost better without them.
I think that smart clothes are a very good idea. It's just showing how technologically advanced America is. I think it's so impressive and intovative, and that can't say theyr'e a bad idea. Why not just give them a shot, and see how they do.
If they come out at an affordable price, I would definantley try to purchase some. I think it would be very cool to where those and see how they actually work. Then I could better formulate an overall opinion on them.
